I was teaching my baby ballerina class this morning. It was our 2nd out of 5 classes. I taught them choreography for the chorus of their song. At the end of the chorus, the ballerinas get to fly around the room with their ballerina wings. In order to prepare them for the 2nd verse tomorrow, I made sure that the last thing I taught them was the beginning position for the 2nd verse. I demonstrated where they should be standing, how they should be standing, and the time in the music they should get there. This way, after we review tomorrow, they’ll already be standing in place and positioned for the second verse. As we practiced, I realized most of them were too preoccupied with flying around that they did not get set for the next piece of choreography they’ll be learning tomorrow. And the one person who did get set for tomorrow’s choreography, was late in the music. I stood in place and modeled what they should be doing well before and after the timing in the music. While standing there, I watched them run wildly with no regard for what’s next and I was saddened. All I could think of was, they’re gonna have a hard time tomorrow.

You see, I am the teacher. I know what’s next. If they listen to me, they’ll be prepared for what’s next. Immediately, I thought about Abba. When He gives us instruction, we should listen and just do it. Be where He says to be, do what He says to do, and do it when He says to do it. We don’t know what’s next, but He does. And Every time He speaks, He’s getting us ready for our next. Sometimes, we have to stop being so preoccupied with the present, and begin preparing for our future That might mean we don’t get to enjoy what is before us as we would like to, but it’s a small price to pay for a big future.
